The Civil Rights Remedy for Sexual Violence

For the next six years after Bawa was signed into law, survivors of sexual violence filed suit against their perpetrators using the civil rights remedy. Christie Broncole lost in the lower courts and brought her case up to the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice William Renquist. The high court ruled that Congress had no power to enact a civil rights remedy under Title IX.
