The Phoenix project talks about those four types of work, but really what we're talking about in the SRE work is toil or is it, is it not toil? Right. So I was able to quantify from this team day to day the amount of hours that were spent on toil. And I put that on a dashboard in Grafana. And I went and showed it to the C level saying this is how much money we are spending on toil as of this moment, month to month. That was like probably the turning point because it allowed the organization to conceptual the amount of money that they are setting literally on fire to maintain the status quo.
