William Williams's First Real Crime
In 1786, William Broderick stole $125,000 worth of sterling banknotes. He was a member of the town council in Edinburgh and helped to find his victim's murderer. In 1787 he hired three associates to help him steal more money from jeweler shops. The men made off with about $50,000worth of precious stones, watches, and rings.
