Harding's Life Story
Harding had been a compromise candidate for the republicans, chosen for his affable nature and reassuring demeanour. He was seen as hard working, but also liked to busy himself with poker, golf and his long time mistress. Hoover raised the commerce department to a level of importance that rivalled the treasury and state departments. Controversy swirled around a group of harding's hard drinking, poker playing cronies known as the ohio an soon harding's inability to detect the moral failings of his corrupt friends would come to haunt him.
