Wilson Pickett became friends with aretha franklin at high school. He joined a few gospel groups first joining one called the sons of zion. But after a while, he realized that gospel wasn't where he was going to make his mark. His change in direction was motivated by financial concern. And this is where the falcons came in. They recorded one single for mercury, produced by willy dixon who was moonlighting from chess.
