Sammy davis junior's life was written as a non fiction, true story of his life. The manuscript completed in 19 62, went through numerous editors. When it was finally released in september 19 65, the time was right for yes i can. It may not have carried sweeping political statements, but it did describe enough of sammy's real experiences of racism that it was taken as a political document by many reviewers,. Some of them white men. Somehow never imagined that a famous black person would or could be treated like a non famous black person.
