The NHS and the Pandemic
There are more staff than there were previously, and that's why we're not seeing a corresponding increase in treatment volumes. The social care workforce actually shrank in 2021-22 and the number of vacancies in the sector in England shot up by 52%. So there are clear signs of a shortage of qualified care workers and shortages of capacity in the sector.
