The Rise of the Sea Dogs in Britain
Angus: Spices, coffee and mutton are among the commodities coming back to Britain. He says they were brought in by traders like Raleigh who wanted a monopoly on trade with Far East. The Spaniard was not very pleased that the English were essentially muscling into their trade routes, he adds. Angus: For the first time in this Elizabeth era, large thanks to these sea dogs there was this whole idea of England being part of a wider world.
