Food addiction can really be quite consuming in terms of coping with childhood traumas attachment injury stress anxiety depression is not about why the food but it's about why the pain okay so what is it that that person is seeking relief from. Often addiction is a coping strategy to escape intolerable experiences and I think rather than looking at food being the issue or the problem or the wrong thing it is looking at okay well understanding how does food allow me to cope with what I'm going through  in response to anxiety distress trauma and things like that.
