Big urban areas like Dakar, with over 100 million people living there, can expect warming which is 6 to 7 degrees more than the global average by the end of the century. That's a huge amount, depending on how we all behave. Big cities like Dakar are looking at numbers that I find hard to believe. If you had six to seven to four to five, you're looking at 10 degrees of warming. And those numbers, though, are averages. They mask the actual peaks you'll be getting in particular places,. As record temperatures spread across the world, Ian Sample sets out to understand what heat does to our bodies and what we can do to mitigate it without causing more damage to the environment.
