All communication must happen through a medium. You need some way to send signal from a transmitter to a receiver. And the method by which you communicate is governed by that medium. So, if you're in a super loud room, then your message needs to be very loud and it needs to sort of not be very noisy. There's this relationship between how noisy a message can be, and how noisy the medium is that you're communicating in.
