There is no consensus at all that anything like this happened, or that we can even call the arrival of the anglo saxons an invasion. New forms of metal working and new artistic styles started to show up in britain in the four hundreds and increasingly in the five hundreds. There are some very famous examples, such as the tremendous ord at sutton ho in southeastern england which seems to date probably from the five hundred.
