The heart is like any other muscle right? It engorges with blood, it pumps harder and then it likes to return to homeostasis. By promoting chronic inflammation and scarring and hardening of the arteries from repeated micro tears we are now seeing an elevated risk of coronary conditions especially atrial fibrillation. So to escape from chronic cardio we're talking about slowing down the vast majority of your workouts, minding that maximum aerobic heart rate and then once in a while pushing your body hard. That's a big difference from getting out there and grinding away day after day with workouts that are a bit too difficult.
