I thought she captured these young people freaking out to an ordinary degree because their entire they saw basically their entire world was over. They had weeks on a boat to come up with a better plan than they came up with. But it was okay to show trauma too. I think that's actually one thing she represents well throughout the story is that there are a lot of people, so many stories have watched and seen portrayed in which somebody dies. It did feel like they're actually anticipating what could go what could happen if they fail, not making good plans.
