David Bianculli: Danny Boyle's whole thing is that he had made these movies with increasing budgets and the beach is the most unwieldy thing he ever made. And so he's sort of like, I have to downsize. In between he makes two TV movies for the BBC that are written by Jim Cartwright. He starts working with Anthony Dodd-Mantle on those. It was just good for him to be like, okay, I have no money. There's only so much time in the world.
