In 12 81, when an even larger mongol fleet arrives at hakata bay, a typhoon strikes. It wipes out the invading army and kills approximately 100 thousand mongol soldiers. The samurai believe that this is a divine intervention. They call it the divine wind, kami kaze. Of course, the kamikasi will play an important role in a later chapter of japanese history.
