Olivia Chow is the first female mayor of Toronto since 1997. She captured 37% of the total votes cast, lowest percentage a winning candidate has ever garnered in the amalgamated city. When she first ran for mayor in 2014, she only took 23%. The top three candidates are all people of color and immigrants.
