Deuteronomy - Is the Author Living Long After Moses?

The writer of Deuteronomy is making the readers feel as if Moses is right there with them in the land. Most scholars would say we're definitely dealing with the monarchic period here at some point and some point in the history of the monarchy. So sometime before the sixth century, that's when the exile happened, 586 to 516 roughly. At least it has to be over the past 200 plus years.
