The great commandment to love is not this sort of ethereal, oh, just love. We talk a big game about love in our culture right now. What vocation does is it gives us the neighbor whom we are to love in the moment we are in. So as a pastor, my job is to love my congregation by faithfully preaching the word to them and visiting them in the hospital. As a father, I love my children by disciplining them, by buying them ice cream on a whim,. By doing fun things with them, but also training them up in the ways of the Lord.
