Is It Influenced by Kafka?
I think people were getting what was resonant at the time. There is a sense of, you know, grounding it in what is really going on. And also the things like chance encounters and innocent people being drawn into really nefarious situations that they have no control over or no understanding of. So I think there is this interest in how close Europe is to Britain through the First World War. It's not just the state's relationship with one another but the relationship between individuals as well.
