I do sometimes wonder whether he doesn't really appeal most to middle aged men. One could partly excuse him by saying that it has something to do with gene, that the women are an instrument of geanre. There's a tradition that goes way back, though, that associates iambic with grotesque female figures. Ar women are extensions of the move of time and the seasons. A young girl is unripe, like an unripe grape, and then an old woman is, is withered. And he does talk about aging himself, and he talks about his own aging as well.
