Backpacking 101 - W-I-S-E
When he was more involved in backpacking, we had this acronym that I was taught wise, W-I-S-E. And the idea is that W stands for wicking and it goes in order in which you dress. So your first layer is your wicking layer, which pulls the moisture from your body. The eye is insulation. You know, you insulate on top of that wicking barrier. But S is your streamline. That's kind of like a rain jacket or an outer layer that cuts through the wind. E was your extremities, the things that you put on your toes and your hands and your head.
