130. How children learn that the Earth is not flat

Education Bookcast

CHAPTER

The Implicit Demands of an Experiment

The experimenter says where do people live on earth and they have this idea the earth is a planet in the sky then they're going to draw a person over there. The child erases one of the houses and draws a person inside the circle. They've apparently been flip-flopping a bit on the earth being round but actually they're pretty certain that the earth is round. But from the experimenters point of view this is really confusing because they don't realize that the child understands a ground and earth to mean two different things and so from their point of view it doesn't really make any sense.
