The Role of Tau Protein Kinase in Alzheimer's Disease
There's a protein called tau protein kinase 1. And it phosphorylates tau, which stabilizes microtubules in the cell. In Alzheimer's disease, for some reason, these tau proteins are hyperphosphorylated. This means that too much of them is going down and they're not able to do their job. They form large aggregates called neurofibrillary tangles; also induce cell death.
