The History of the Cherokee Nation

Georgia passed a resolution declaring land and title rights to the 10 million acres of Cherokee territory. Georgia knew the federal government had set lands aside in Oklahoma for several tribes. Facing these developments, Chief John Ross advised the National Council not to panic. He argued that the Cherokee nation possessed valid treaties for their land with the United States government.
