volume one was written still during the first worlds war, so in the context where the political system was still stable. And of course, is a testimony to the er destruction of this old, wilhelminian, late victorian german society. The book could have been written with more pity for the victims of history, without this triumphalist attitude it who win. That's how spanglers accept it and we have to accept it. It's also a question of style and that all leads to this condemnation by the left.
