The amyloid hypothesis is the idea that these sticky plaques are actually causing the dementia in Alzheimer's. The laconomab drug is a drug that attaches itself to these plaques and attracts the attention of the immune system, which then clear the protein away. This drug measurably does a good job of removing these plaques. And so what we're learning is then that this mechanism in the brain is a useful one to target even though nothing we've tried before has worked.
