The Line Between Poetry and Jokes
Chris Anderson: I think poetry needs comedy and comedy needs poetry. He started out as just a performance poet, which meant that all of his poems were about extremely intense emotional experiences. And so he started to tell jokes on stage and to improvise them as a way to make us ready to receive deeper conversations with each other. "There's a delight and joy in being part of something greater than ourselves," says Anderson.
