Durga Puja is a sacrifice of all our lower impulses, tendencies so that the divine nature can emerge and we can become liberated and lightened. Then there is the Arathi which every day you will see the priest himself and two other monks in our order who do the Arathi three at a time. One more thing which happens is Kumari Puja - not just in the image but in a little girl who is selected for that and she is worshipped as the Divine Mother. And then after the Puja is over you give the image back to the elements: It's immersed in water and it melts away into water. So I'm sure the goats would be totally on board with that
On the auspicious occasion of Durga Puja, Swami Sarvapriyananda speaks on the significance of the Divine Mother.
