When you see another being who's in a state of suffering, your whole body, your nervous system, react. So instead of saying you shouldn't be feeling these things, you can try talking to yourself exactly the way you would if you were crying over something at school. Ask yourself, what tone of voice would you use? What endearments would you use for this child? And why the heck are you any different?
