Is There a Simulator?

Cases of simulation are quite different from cases in which I misidentify or mis-describe what is there to be seen. In the latter cases I take something say the water running down the window to be rain when it is water from a garden sprinkler. This has no tendency to threaten the authoritative status of correct judgements made in normal context.
