What Is a Mamluke?
Some people were just kidnapped. You know, raiders would just go kidnap people. And also some people, you say, it does seem, were sold into slavery by their families. It shows again how the the philosophy of slavery in the mediterranean may have been. If you are of a different religion and you're captured, then that is a legitimate avenue toe coming a slave. But it could happen other ways, like, like indebtedness. And it's very common for there to a connection between debt and slavery.
