GPDs are incredibly helpful for brainstorming in part because they kind of give you what are the generic arguments that people make for a particular idea of thought. It's also useful for editing, for improving style, for criticizing style and so on. With GPD4, I really didn't find this to be a very significant problem anymore. But then the things in background research where GPD 3.5 even was useful was in summarizing text.
