Human Intelligence Is More Like a Pilot Than a Computer
Human intelligence may be like the peacock's tail or stag's antlers, a trait that got blown out of all proportion relative to what was strictly needed to do the jo. Others think that human intelligence took off in parallel with our ability to pass on skills and learning and technologies to successive generations. What distinguishes us most from other animals is not our basic cognitive skills, but the complexity of our societies,. In particular, our language, our means of communication. And this open ended, imaginative nature of human cognition might be just what we need to cope with the greater part of what our existence has always been about - choices that never end.
