Lincoln and Level faced an army twice their size commanded by Tudor Faithfuls, Jasper Tudor and the Earl of Oxford. The rebels were probably hoping they could take out a few of Henry's army with their German crossbowmen then have the royalists charge up the hill in fury. And so they started with a swarm of crossbows and received back a deluge of arrows. Their Irish Kearns possessed very limited armour indeed and were therefore being slaughtered by the arrows storm.
