The idea of digital media companies was that you had an idea, you multiplied it across platforms and across touch points. This thing could be a series of text quotes that go into LinkedIn and burnish your professional reputation. It could also become a series of social cut downs. And so it was pretty logical that these things would be incredibly valuable because there's all of that spread of value. Also part of the story seems to be like YouTube and Facebook were trying to recruit media companies to distribute content on their platforms.
