Habits are the foundation for mastery, but there is a downside to building good habits. When you can do something pretty good on an auto pilot, you stop thinking about how to do it better. An interesting study that's been done on surgeons shows that early on in their career, they go through resicy they increase fluency and skill. You become less acable, ye, and you become less a cognizant of where you might be slipping by.
