In 1937, Japanese troops advance 185 miles up the Yangtze River to Nanjing. Troops from Japan's Chiba core build a makeshift bridge of stones and wooden plains over the river. General Hideki Tōji was delighted by Japan's succession of victories in China. To him, this is proof of the awesome might of the Japanese military machine.
