There's this fantastic line from one of my favorite books, which is written by Will and Ariel Durant. It says in every age men have been dishonest and governments have been corrupt. Twain's version of that is the government of my country, snubs honest simplicity, but fondles artistic villain. And I think I might have developed into a very capable pickpocket if I had remained in public service. So Twain is going to have a series of jobs. He wants to get rich because it's like, I'm going to get rich where we're going to getrich in gold. But when he gets there, he realizes that successful silver mining involved months of digging, drilling, boring and blasting
