The Rise and Fall of Aristotle
Until Thomas Aquinas' era, until the mid-1300s, most of Aristotle's writings were not known to the Western Europeans. Padua was maybe the most important university in the world in the beginning of the Renaissance. America did a lot better because America's revolution was a pro-enlightenment revolution. That's why America flourished in the decades and centuries came after.
