Edward Bernays was a long standing women's rights advocate. He and his wife, Doris Fleischman got married in 1922 after a long lingering courtship. They fell in love but were so focused on avoiding what they saw as the mistakes of their parents that they kept their relationship hidden for years. Eddie's sister actually had her husband adopt the Bernays name when they married so that the family line could go on.
