Bhishma and the Three Fiancés
Bhishma was the last living heir of a dynasty in Kashi, modern day Varanasi. He kidnapped three young princesses and took them to Hastinapur for his younger brother. The eldest girl told him that she had already set her heart on another man. Bhishma's reply: "That oath of celibacy is the highest law, and I will not violate it"
