Exploring the Personal and Professional Interest in Tohoku
In this chapter, the speakers discuss their personal and professional interest in the Tohoku region of Japan. They talk about how they became interested in Tohoku through their placement as an ALT in Iwanemishi and their experience of the modern city of Sendai. They also mention their curiosity about the local dialect and its use in translation, which led them to question the representation of Tohoku in the modern and contemporary time period. Finally, they explain how they decided to focus their research on Tohoku for their dissertation project.
