In 1909, French aviator and moustache enthusiast Louis Blurio bagged the £1000 prize that had been posted by the British Daily Mail newspaper for the first flight across the English Channel. Within a few years in 1913, the world's first scheduled passenger airline was founded, the St Petersburg Tampa airboat line.
