The Joseph Smith Translation Change and Judas' Desire for the Messiah to Take the Throne
In the 2013 edition of the scriptures, the church added a Joseph Smith translation reference that I think might add some significant insight as to why. In Mark 14 verse 10, it reads, Judas Iscariot 1 of the 12, 1 under the chief priests to betray him unto them. He wasn't seeking the monetary reward as much as he was trying to hurt Jesus because he was hurt by him by his teachings and was offended by his words.
