The Role of Impulsivity in Inhibiting Behavior
The prefrontal cortex is not fully myelonized or completely ready for action until very late 20s. So our expectations that, you know, as a 16-year-old is going to show good judgment is just some oxymoron to that idea. The Marshmallow Experiment in 1970 found kids who were able to inhibit their impulses ended up having more successful lives. And we really want to understand the role that impulseivity has in interfering with a foreign soul.
