I don't know what it is about Ryan Gosling. He just commands the screen and commands the scene. Peter Keshe, he's been at the top of his game for such a long time. I think there are very few people who have that kind of presence. There's barely any dialogue from Takeshi Kitano. The film has a very poetic quality to it. It lingers on the character before and after those moments. Having those brutal horrible moments punctuated by silence and reflection really works. Well, you look at films like Drive.
