The name appleton is very recurrent in place names, and it's still a name that's quite transparent to us to day. There are also apple bees. We also have peru and pery, which are pear words. And we have plum as well as a recurrent element with tune and bee. So these could have been mixed species orchards, but they were probably recognizing a particularly important type of fruit.
