The Importance of the Commons in the Web Platform

The web platform or commons is ultimately in many ways built on this other commons, which is Linux and a lot of cases. We have all kinds of things coming to the web that, you know, this low level work will enable for higher level browser stuff. So can anybody speak to that a little bit?
