Base 16 - What's the Difference?

The ASCII alphabet is two of the 56 different characters. The tradeoff here is readability, because you could represent machine code as normal characters. Base 16 is relatively easy to read, but then it's quite long. If you take a public key and you write it as hexadecimal, it sits around the long thing to write down. But base 58 is a little bit shorter.
